May is Bike Month in Washoe County
The RTC Board proclaimed May Bike Month in Washoe County.
During Bike Month, the Truckee Meadows Bicycle Alliance (TMBA) works with many local partners, including the RTC, to offer a wide range of cycling activities and contests that encourage more cycling in Washoe County, as well as community building among the cyclists in our area. From casual group rides to community meetups, there’s something for everyone during bike Month.
A few of Bike Month’s highlights include:
Commuter Challenge: TMBA organizes this month-long challenge to encourage more people to replace some or all of their car trips with bicycle trips. Whether you’re going to work, school, the grocery store, or the coffee shop, logging your bicycle commuting miles on the RTC Smart Trips website will make you eligible to win one of our Commuter Challenge prizes.
Bicycle Repair Clinic: The RTC is teaming up with the Reno Bike Project to offer a free bicycle repair clinic at the bike fix-it station at RTC 4TH STREET STATION in Downtown Reno on Monday, May 13 from 4-6 p.m. Bring your bike and we’ll help you get it ready to ride!
Cyclofemme: Organized annually on Mother’s Day, CycloFemme is a global celebration of women on bicycles. Locally, TMBA has developed an event that creates a fun and supportive atmosphere for cycling women of all types and ability levels. Learn more here
Reno River Roll: Organized as part of the Reno River Festival, the River Roll offers an opportunity to be part of a huge, rolling concert. Costumes are encouraged! When you register for the event, $5 will be donated to a local cycling organization of your choice.
Ride for Reading: On Thursday, May 16 at 10 a.m., bicycle riders are invited to participate in the Ride For Reading. The event will start with participants by filling their backpacks with donated books and riding to Kate Smith Elementary School, 1925 F Street, in Sparks. Bike Month Photo Contest: With so many great bike events happening during Bike Month, there are tons of opportunities to snag an award-winning photo. Stay tuned for details on this year’s contest.
Bike Month After Party: This year, TMBA is partnering with Wandering Wyld to bring you an awesome celebration of the close of another successful Bike Month. Join TMBA on June 1 in Midtown for a family-friendly festival including local artists, musicians, food, and bikes!
